Malaysia's Acting Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability, Johari Abdul Ghani, disclosed on Wednesday that China is willing to offer technical and process assistance in the field of rare earth processing to the country. He emphasized that the cooperation will be limited to state-owned enterprises of the two countries.
Foreign media reports said that on Wednesday, Johari stated in a written parliamentary reply that China has conveyed to Malaysia its willingness to support the country in achieving its rare earth industry development goals.
"Given that technological protection is of vital importance to China, the cooperation will only involve enterprises associated with the two governments." He added that the current discussions are still at an early stage and no agreements have been reached between the two countries.
Johari pointed out that, given China's dominant position in the global rare earth sector, especially in the field of rare earth element separation technology, the assistance from the Chinese side is of great significance to Malaysia.
Johari also stated that this cooperation will enhance Malaysia's international reputation in the field of rare earths, making it the only country in the world that possesses both Chinese and non-Chinese rare earth processing technologies.
