CAS #: 7440-60-0
Linear Formula: Ho
EC No.: 231-169-0
Application Area:
Holmium oxide can be used as a yellow and red stain for artificial diamonds and glass. Glass containing holmium oxide and holmium oxide solutions (often perchloric acid solutions) have sharp absorption peaks in the range of 200 to 900nm, so they can be used as calibration criteria for spectrometers. Like other rare earth elements, holmium oxide is also used as a special catalyst, phosphor and laser material. The wavelength of holmium laser is approximately 2.08 modis m, either pulse or continuous light. The laser is harmless to the eye and can be used in medicine, optical radar, wind speed measurement and atmospheric monitoring.

About Holmium Oxide |
Holmium oxide is a yellow powder, molecular formula Ho2O3, insoluble in water and soluble in acid. The color change of holmium oxide was significant under light conditions. Light yellow in sunlight, strong orange-red in trichromatic light source, almost indistinguishable from erbium oxide in the same light, which is related to its sharp phosphorescent emission band. Holmium oxide has a band gap up to 5.3 eV wide and, therefore, should be colourless. The yellow of holmium oxide is the result of numerous lattice defects such as oxygen vacancy and internal conversion of Ho3+. |
